Should you buy SSD today?
Everyone question if theres time to go for SSD HD’s. I can ensure you that it’s worth the money if you want Windows 7 to spin like a Ferrari! The performance is amazing on the SSD drives that uses SandForce chipset. Good example is Corsair SSD Force series. Take a look 
here for example. The performance is 3 times more than an older magnetic HD. Performance around 95MB/s on a Samsung HD103SJ and compare to a Corsair SSD Force series with amazing performance around 285 MB/s on read and 275 MB/s on write. If you need large storage you should stick with the older HD’s. You get more storage for the money.
Promise RAID and Seagate HD’s
Today I worked with a Server that we gonna deliver to a costumer. But something was not right. The HD LED’s on the bracket lights red constantly. They should not do that if there isn’t any activity on the drives. And the performance was really bad. The configure was not complicated. I ran two HD’s in RAID 1. And for that I thought that Seagate ST31000528AS would work. So I changed the drives to Samsung HD103SJ. TADA!!!! Now the constantly red HD LED’s is gone. It lights red as it should do when a activity occurs. And performance is very good. So be careful witch HD’s you match with Promise TX4650 RAID card.

Learning and experimenting
My thoughts are at the mysql server and the php server. I’m in a mood of updating the server OS to Windows 2008 R2. I’m running the 2003 server OS today and have done it a long time now. The system is stable, but rather old. And I’ve working allot in the Windows 2008 R2 OS at work. And feels there are many positive functions and features that could get very handy in the daily base usage. But! I have a big bump that I have to get over… The mysql is 4.1.x version, and the PHP server is 4.4.x. If I upgrade all these Web-server Add-ons, I may have problems with web-pages i run today. Guess I have to read FAQ’s and test all this in a test environment, before I go a head with the final Installation. I have to consider 64-Bit OS. Will it run with older apps in 32-Bit mode? This gets complicated…
Here it is 1024×768 resolution on a eeePC, Windows 7
So you have your NetBook all setup how you like it but that 1024×576 or 1024×600 resolution is stopping you from running your favorite programs .. or you just feel like you should have a bit more space.
1.) Run regedit.exe
2.) Search for string: “Display1_DownScalingSupported” with out the quotes ..
3.) When it finds this value. Double click the value and change it from 0 to 1
4.) Continue to search by pressing key F3, and it will search again, do this for every one you find.
5.) Reboot the eeepc and your done.
It’s now possible to use the Asus eeePC Tray Utility to change the resolution at 1024×768.

Times goes by… Virtual PC in Win 7
It’s been a long time since i was able to blog. It has been many other things that I have to prioritize I.R.L. So lets begin!
Today I did a little experiment in Windows 7. I tested the Virtual PC that also enables the Windows XP Mode. But this time I challenge Virtual PC a little more. I tried Windows 2003 Server in the Virtual environment and running a NAT server between two NIC’s. A DHCP-Server and a DNS-Server was added. And to my surprise it did work well! OK! May not be ideal for big company’s. But for a better inbuilt Router on a PC in a home environment it should suit it’s purpose well. And much better than Windows 7’s ICS-Server. I guess that at this time there are more than just me that have been irritated on Windows 7’s ICS-Server, that constantly interrupt the Internet connection on client side. In my case I had to restart the ICS service to get it to work again… At the time of writing, Microsoft has not put out any patch that resolves the problem. So in my case I’m very happy that Virtual PC and a configured Windows 2003 server works. Well hope you also can resolve your issue. Maybe, like I did. 🙂
